Water quality

The water quality in Brattørbassenget is monitored year-round. Every Monday, we take a sample by the floating dock, and every Thursday, the Municipality of Trondheim takes a sample at the inner part of the basin near Brattørkaia. The results are published continuously both here and on the municipality’s official website. You can view all water test results on Trondheim Municipality’s website.

How is the water quality at Brattøra?

The water quality at Brattøra is generally good.
Out of 26 samples during the 2025 season, only two early-season measurements exceeded the threshold of 1000 cfu, and by the next measurement, bacteria levels had returned to normal. This indicates that the water in Brattørbassenget remains stable and hygienically safe throughout the season.

What do we measure?

For individual water samples, the Norwegian bathing water quality standard for outdoor swimming areas (Circular IK-21/94) is used to assess hygienic safety. E. coli is the chosen analysis parameter, and the guideline specifies a threshold of above 1000 cfu / 100 ml E. coli as unacceptable bathing water quality.

After heavy rain

Heavy rainfall can lead to increased runoff from stormwater and sewage systems. We therefore recommend waiting at least 24 hours before swimming after a heavy rainstorm.
