The beginning
We were new to Trondheim. Three young students with a deep love for cold plunges, Wim Hof, and löyly. While saunas were popping up across other parts of the country, Trondheim — the capital of Trøndelag — had no place where you could combine sea bathing with sauna. We wanted to make a change.
First stop: Østmarkneset, 7040 Trondheim. An abandoned concrete bunker, built by the Germans during World War II to store ammunition, now stood idle. A hidden gem — covered in graffiti — right at the picnic spot of one of the city’s most scenic hiking trails: Ladestien.
After a summer of hard work, we finally opened Bunker Sauna in August 2021 — the city’s first public sauna. At last, we were up and running!
The city center, here we come
We were hungry for more. And so was the city. We had learned a thing or two along the way and were ready to build a new sauna. This time, it would float.
Brattørbassenget stood out as the obvious choice. A new, vibrant part of the city. A hub for express boats, cruise ships, and trains. A place where you can drop by before work, or combine a Sunday walk along the Fjord Promenade with a steaming hot sauna session. Architect-designed by students. Built with love, volunteer spirit, and a whole lot of nails.
A continuation on the path towards making Trondheim Norway’s best seaside resort.
We always seek new adventures
